From the brief:

“The objective of this project is to explore the possibilities of utilising artificial intelligence (AI) and computational design for conceptualising, visualising and designing a sacred space such as a temple, cathedral or a mosque as a communal space at the Lotus Temple site in New Delhi, India. The project aims to used advanced technology to create an environment that inspires devotion and reflects the cultural and spiritual values of the community. The role of AI(Midjourney, ChatGPT, DALL.E) is constrained to create conceptual visual imagery using prompt development and iterative process, followed by the use of Computational Design tools to create 3D model and develop the design of the space further with detailing and representation.”

The Lotus Temple (Bahá’í House of Worship) in Delhi, a place for worship for all, is re-envisioned as a Temple of Light. Drawing inspiration from the spectrum of colours that make up white light, the Midjourney AI model is trained to develop conceptual visual imagery of a building that houses this beautiful phenomenon. From a series of starting key words, a building undergoes metamorphosis much like a baby from an embryo or a caterpillar from a cocoon.
